Besides application shortcuts, you can also place website shortcuts, files and folders. You can place new shortcuts on any tab by simply dragging and dropping them. Also, hovering over an icon will display its name and if the application is running, a compact preview of its window will show up. You only need to hover with the mouse cursor over a tab to select it. Obviously, you only need to click one of these icons to launch its corresponding application. The application comes with a few default tabs and shortcuts, for main items, like Finder or iTunes, web applications and miscellaneous tools, like the system preferences panel, the activity monitor and so on. This means that you may keep your desktop spotless at all times. Instead of dumping your files and shortcuts on your desktop, you can organize them neatly on a series of tabs, on one of your screen's edges. You also get to select new icons for Start Menu, Trash, and Show Desktop from one of the available presets.Nobody likes a messy desktop, but avoiding one is not easy, especially if we have to open the same applications and files repeatedly. Notably, you can switch to a different theme for the dock and add custom icons for applications. The app gives you quite a few options to customize the look and feel of the dock as well as its contents. Then you'll have to drag that folder out to the Dock. You'll first have to move/copy individual Finder items out of their original location to a separate folder. You can't create such groups with the macOS Dock easily. (If you want to group non-Finder resources, consider apps that let you create unified workspaces.) You can add apps, files, folders, and photos-any item works as long as it's accessible via Finder. This comes in handy when you want to, say, keep all the resources relevant to a particular project accessible from the dock. The Show/Hide Desktop dock icon is also a nice touch, and a pretty useful one too!ĪctiveDock allows you to group disparate items into a single view.
